* If you or someone you know is in immediate danger from assault or abuse — Call 9-1-1 or your local emergency number.
What should you do when you or someone you know has been physically assaulted?
It is important to know your rights and to understand the policies of physical assault under the criminal act so that you get the compensation you deserve, and that justice is rightfully served for the offender.
When and How to Press Charges for Physical Assault
If you or someone you know has been assaulted, there are two things you should do immediately:
1. Call 9-1-1 or contact your local police department immediately to start a report file on the attack. The police will take your statement, and advise you on your next steps accordingly.
2. Contact a personal injury lawyer and tell them everything you know and remember from the incident. A legal professional should be able to provide you with the guidance and solace needed as you recover from the attack and proceed to explore your options.
